Your physician will explain to you what medication options are available and, if you choose to begin taking medication, we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process could take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child's dosage until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not uncommon to to titrate up to three different medicines before you can find the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to be involved in this titration process, and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

The doctor will also ask you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms have on your life, as well as any issues with your relationships that you may be facing or any other mental health issues you may be suffering from. This is because adhd titration waiting list is a genetic disorder and it is important that we assess any family history that could indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

If you aren't sure what your preference is, we suggest that you talk to your GP prior to booking your private appointment as certain providers have different policies regarding whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also recommend that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement that means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

For many people who want an individual diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a key aspect of their journey. It isn't easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that offers a private assessment service and titration. This will help you to save time and also be more convenient, especially in the event of a hectic schedule.

Once you have been identified as a candidate for this treatment the doctor you choose will evaluate you and determine whether or not you require to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that are different for each provider, but the most common ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician determine any issues that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will be a combination stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. They will be assessed and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration process can be a lengthy process and may require a number of additional appointments before your dose is stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication you're taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. The appointment will involve your doctor checking to see if you are on the right medication, recording any side effects you have had and making any necessary adjustments to ensure you are on a dose that is safe. You will be required to go to an annual review as well as a routine health examination which includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

Some people may be satisfied with their treatment and therefore do not require discussing their titration in more detail. If, however, they do need further discussions about their titration adhd adults and treatment plans, it is possible that they will be referred back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be part of their consultation fee, and they will be given their medication via a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
