Three Wheeled Buggies

Figures have just been released showing that the three-wheeled buggy which was a symbol of the decade of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and a 3 wheel compact stroller year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote "it feels sturdy to push and extremely solid when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require periodic pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is another thing to think about. It should be big enough for your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline so that they can lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others allow a parent facing one.

A great option for those who want to tackle off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean that your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for off-road buggies. They also allow you to navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with swivel front wheels to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be pushed. This is particularly useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.

They also have a suspension system that, in her words "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you're using it as a jogger or you need to to get through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. Fortunately, the majority of models come with compact folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheel buggy can be more comfortable to drive with children. They are designed so that the front wheels turn on a dime, and are easy to move, making them ideal for challenging terrain such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler and newborn and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground and the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed by the way it handled bumps, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel stroller for newborn wheel buggy might make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you should keep in mind when your home is an urban area. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better choice for you.
